Through A Fistful of Soul and the Center for Public History at the University of Houston, La Rotta has organized a panel discussion and music performance tied to a book that documents a particular subset of the ’50s and ’60s R&B and soul that has held his attention for years. Anchoring the event will be “Chicano Soul: Recordings and History of an American Culture,” Ruben Molina’s history of Chicano soul music that became a treasured text among record-crate diggers when it was released a decade ago.
