Forty years after its release, “Up in Smoke” remains a cultural touchstone and a reminder of this country’s weird relationship to drugs.  What endures, even in an age of legal marijuana, is the relationship between Pedro (Cheech Marin) and Man (Tommy Chong), a Chicano from East L.A. and a hippie of unknown origin, on an endless quest for weed and yucks. The weed is often scarce but the laughs keep coming, from a furious Strother Martin to a very smoky car ride to the Ajax Lady’s freakout for the ages.
