Los Angeles, California — Viviana Franco attended high school in an affluent Southern California neighborhood that had tree-lined streets, walking trails and parks. When she went home at the end of the day, she was greeted by a starkly different neighborhood that had liquor stores, broken sidewalks, potholed streets and no green spaces.
