Private Marcelino Serna was an undocumented Mexican immigrant who joined the U.S. Army and fought in World War I. He was the first Latino to be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Captain Humbert Roque ‘Rocky’ Versace, of Puerto Rican-Italian descent, was a member of U.S. Army Special Forces.
