“It was truly an honor to be at the Peterson Museum for this incredible collaboration—one that brought together Lowriders, Zoot Suits, Pachucos, and Pachucas in a way that not only celebrated our culture but also reminded us of our resilience and history.
This event was more than just a fashion show. It was a statement—a declaration that we are still here, proud of who we are, proud of where we come from, and proud of the traditions that continue to define us. The Zoot Suit was not just clothing; it was a symbol of resistance, cultural pride, and survival. It represented a time when young Pachucos and Pachucas used style as a form of defiance, standing tall against discrimination and oppression during the 1930s and 1940s, when society tried to diminish our presence.
That same spirit lives on in the Lowrider community, which shares that deep-rooted sense of identity and artistry. Lowriders are not just cars—they are expressions of who we are. Every detail, every customization reflected our history, our struggles, and our triumphs. Much like the Pachucos of the past, Lowriders carry forward a tradition of self-expression, rebellion, and cultural pride. And that night, we celebrated that connection—the bridge between the Zoot Suit and the Lowrider, two powerful symbols of our community’s enduring strength.” —Vanesa Estrella
