A new mural featuring the Virgin of Guadalupe as an activist carrying a jug of water in the desert for migrants will be completed at Chicano Park just in time for the National Historic Landmark’s namesake holiday in late April. The mural — painted by Sal Barajas, one of the original artists that painted the park’s oldest mural in 1973 — celebrates the work of Border Angels, a nonprofit group that commissioned the work for $15,000.
