El Pilón Criollo, situated between Clifford Avenue and Avenue D, has a newer façade stands out from others. A gorgeously vibrant mural on the exterior illustrates a tropical countryside of Puerto Rico plus a pilón — the mortar and pestle to make mofongo (mashed plantains) — and a coquí frog painted with the Puerto Rican flag, both symbolic of the island. Windows make up front of the building, facing the street.
