It’s been more than 50 years since Dr. Sanchez was a founding member of the influential social justice organization known as the Brown Berets, and he is still fighting for the civil rights of the Latinx community. In 1966, his own run-ins with the Los Angeles Police Department gave him the idea to organize and build a community of politically involved Latinx. The Brown Berets became an essential part of the Latinx social justice organizations that gave way to the Chicano Movement of 1968.
